Malling

My other post about how I hand out my number to girls at the mall hit #1 in Google for ‘picking up girls in the Philippines’, beating PI Addicts, SwooptheWorld, and HappierAbroad (all great sites), that was pretty cool. So I thought I’d add some more info about all the other stuff that happens at malls.

Sometimes malling can be really boring, other times it can be quite entertaining. They’re a safe, clean, comfortable place with aircon so they aren’t a bad place to kill some time.

I would guess that in the last 5 years before I left the US I had been in a mall one time. At most twice. Now I am in malls pretty much every day. I mainly go there for food and because Filipina women flock to them, but those subjects have already been covered 🙂

The first thing you may notice when you are in a mall is how many people work there. Go inside an SM department store and there will be 8 girls working in one small area that would be staffed by 1 or 2 people in a western mall.

Just walking down an aisle you will probably be called Sir 3 times and asked if you want their product. It gets annoying, but it’s how they are trained. They are supposed to greet every customer and let them know what they are selling.

Of course the problem with this is that no one wants to be greeted 3 times every minute, but you get used to it. They also generally don’t know that much about what they are trying to sell.

They have the same ‘don’t like to say no’ trait all Asians have. This means you can’t really trust their answers to specific questions.

But the thing that is most annoying is that with the mass number of salespeople around they totally cockblock me. Say I see a pretty girl in the section for socks. I would like to walk up to this pretty girl and say hello, or just hand her my number.

But for some reason they have 7 people working in the sock section and they are all standing around chatting. If I want to go talk to her I have to barge in on their conversation.

Even if I do happen to catch her straying away from the group there will be 10 coworkers in site with eyes on us as we talk.

They are so many sexy Pinays working in these malls but it is very hard to get a good approach spot to them. It takes a lot of patience, and I hate waiting.

One of the girls I handed my number too shared it on Facebook lol

Music

Wherever you go in the Philippines you are likely to hear lots of music and the malls are no exception. Sometimes the right song will come on at the right time and liven up your mood.

My personal favorite is when I hear R-Kelly’s (stay with me) remix to Ignition. Nothing puts a bigger smile on my face then thinking about Chapelle’s version. I start giggling like a school girl every time I hear it.

They will play totally uncensored rap anywhere and everywhere in the Philippines. In SM they have a train that goes around the walkway that kids can ride in. One time it goes past me and is blaring (this train clearly needs subs) Nicki Minaj saying ‘tell me how my ass taste.’

Even being the cheap bastard I am I would absolutely pay money to watch some upper-middle class soccer mom from white America get into one of these trains with her little Billy and little Sally and have that song come on.

sales-at-the-mall-philippines-cebuI can not think of anything that would be more entertaining than the look on her face and the scene that she would cause.

All the while her kids wouldn’t even have a clue what was going on.

SALE!

Everywhere you go you will see signs trying to draw you in. SALE! NEW ARRIVAL! NEW STOCK! CLEARANCE SALE!

Even at the nice upscale malls they have some signs. At the cheaper malls it’s much worse.

They also like to have people talking on headsets with speakers trying to sell certain products.

The funny part about this is that even if there are no customers watching their demonstration they just keep selling away to no one.

Some businesses blast messages in Tagalog or Visaya loudly into the surrounding area and I have no clue what they mean.

All I can tell is they keep repeating the same words over and over. I am sure it is something about a sale or discount.

Lotto

One of the things that is kind of sad to see in the malls is the lotto stands. There is always a long line of (suckers) people waiting to try their luck. I am sure that the lotteries are making a killing off of them.
